CPR CLASSES

 

The following American Red Cross First Aid  & CPR classes/courses are available:

BLS (Basic Life Support)  

  • Description

    •  BLS courses deliver information and skills training on:
      • Rapid Assessment and Visual Survey
      • CPR/AED for Adults, Children and Infants
      • Obstructed Airways
      • Opioid Overdoses
      • Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Communication and Teamwork
      • The Emergency Medical Services System
      • Legal Considerations
      • Precautions
  • Designed for medical personnel, healthcare professionals, public safety personnel, and first-responders

    • Physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, nurse assistants
    • Dentists, physical therapists, pharmacists
    • Paramedics, advanced emergency medical technicians (AEMTs), emergency medical technicians (EMTs)
    • Firefighters, law enforcement, emergency medical responders (EMRs)
    • Students entering the field

CPR AED (Adult and Pediatric)

  • Description

    • CPR training classes gives an individual the information and the skills needed to help adults, children and infants during breathing and cardiac emergencies. 
    • AED training courses allow individuals to learn how – and when – to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). 
  • Designed for healthcare workers (who do not require BLS)

  • Appropriate for anyone with little or no medical training

Hands-Only CPR

  • Adults without previous formal CPR training can learn, demonstrate, and retain effective Hands-Only CPR skills 

    • Course Purpose:

      • The purpose of the American Red Cross Hands-Only CPR course is to teach untrained bystanders how to perform hands-only CPR. Having more bystanders trained in this simple skill can help save lives by putting more cardiac arrest victims within a few steps of lifesaving assistance.
    • Participant Prerequisites:

      • There are no prerequisites or minimum age to participate in the Hands-Only CPR course.
    • Design and Length:

      • The Hands-Only CPR course can be taught in approximately 30  minutes to 1 hour, depending on number of participants.
    • Course Content:

      •   Correct steps to perform CPR
      •  Hands-on practice on a manikin (optional, but recommended)
      •  Correct use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)                 
  • NOTE: This course has no formal knowledge or skill assessments; therefore, there are no requirements for successful completion. There is no certificate for this course.

First Aid

  • Description

    • When a person understands first aid, he or she will gain the ability to help those in need. Through the first aid certification classes, an individual learns how to respond to specific situations, which will help to care for people in crisis as they wait for medical professionals to arrive. This gives the best opportunity for a positive outcome – and gives YOU, the provider, the opportunity to change someone’s life for the better 
    • Designed to help non-medical professionals provide assistance in times of crisis, our courses allow you to gain an understanding of first aid best practices for a wide range of conditions, including:
      • Asthma emergencies
      • Anaphylaxis
      • Burns
      • Choking
  • Designed for healthcare (who do not require BLS)

  • Appropriate for anyone with little or no medical training

CEUs (Continuing Education Units)

  • Available for nurses, social workers, teachers and day care providers and other professionals
  • The American Red Cross courses are approved as an Accredited Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET)
  • The maximum number of hours awarded for this CE activity is 1.00 contact hours

 

Renewal-Recertification Courses (American Red Cross)

  •  Fast, Easy Certification
  • Also called Review courses
  • For an individual who needs to refresh his/her memory, renew his/her skills, and stay up-to-date on the latest techniques.
  • Designed for those whose American Red Cross credentials are still valid but near expiration (current or expired no more than 30 days).
  • Are instructor-led abbreviated versions of the standard full courses and take less time.
  • Allow an individual to maintain certification for an additional two years.
